The legendary Swedish band Candlemass was formed by bassist and songwriter Leif Elfding and drummer Matz Ekström, who also played together in a band called Nemesis. Candlemass is seen as one of the pioneers of the doom metal genre and have kept a leading position in the scene ever since. The discography of Candlemass features more than one genre classic such as highly acclaimed records Epicus Doomicus Metallicus (1986) and its successor Nightfall (1987).
